PASEN was initiated as an outcome of the First 'Africa in the 21st century and the Quasquicentennial of the Scramble of Africa' series of Conferences in May 2011. It was launched as part of the series of activities of the AU Global Diaspora Summit, held in May 2012, in Johannesburg, during the Second Annual Scramble for Africa Conference (the new so-called Conference of the Intellectuals).
PASEN: Opportunities for Global Change
The PASEN Framework provides a unique platform for continental African scholars, educators, leaders, stakeholders and their peers in the Diaspora, to systematically engage with the profound challenges of education systems across the world, in delivering enhanced outcomes for African students and youth.
The PASEN initiative is leading to the creation of a global Afrocentric movement in the educational sphere - dedicated towards the
realisation of a world order that would promote African empowerment and deliver education for equality and social justice, for Africa’s youth.
PASEN Founder Members include: Dr. Elizabeth Rasekoala (Co-Chair); Prof. Phindile Lukhele-Olorunju (Co-Chair); Prof David L Horne (USA); Dr Nomusa Raphesu (UK); and Mr Oscar Brathwaite (Canada).
PASEN currently has representatives/members from the following countries and regions: USA, UK, Canada, Brazil, the Caribbean region, South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Cameroun, Zimbabwe and Botswana.
